2016-17 Peachtree City Rotary Club
Elementary Grand Prix Race Series

About the Series

About the Series:  It is difficult to pick up a newspaper today without reading another story about the long-term implications of the growing childhood obesity problems.  Peachtree City and Fayette County are not immune from this problem.  Recognizing this issue, two active local organizations decided to take a positive step toward at least helping to resolve the problem in our area.

The Rotary Elementary School Grand Prix series of races began in the spring of 2005 with 5 races scheduled in a preliminary shake down series.  The first full Grand Prix series season was the 2005-2006 school year.  The Peachtree City Rotary Club is the primary financial sponsor and hence the name.  The Peachtree City Running Club is the primary technical sponsor and will assist in the conduct of all races including the finish line, the timing/scoring, and the maintenance of the year long winners’ data base.

Last year about $100,000 was raised by the schools, and the series of races has became one more campaign in the fight against childhood obesity.

Points are awarded at each race, for all age groups, both male and female.  As the year progresses, points are accumulated (Sept-May). At the end of the year, awards will be presented to the top three runners, both male and female, in all age groups (ages 8& < to 70+), having accumulated the most points.  The top three finishers in each age group recieve a custom plaque and also are recognized at a very nice awards luncheon, hosted by the Rotary Club of Peachtree City and held at the Wyndham Conference Center, this year at noon on May 30, 2013.  For those unable to attend the luncheon, a second awards ceremony will be held at the PTC Running Club meeting on June 3rd, at 7:30 PM a the Dolce Conference Center in Peachtree City.

Points are earned by age group and gender as follows:  100 points for first in age group, 90 points for second, 80 points for third, etc.   Any finishers in 11th place and lower earn 5 points.  Ten (10) bonus points are automatically awarded in the accumulated points for each race after your 4th race.  Each race will be conducted by the individual schools as fundraisers for that school only.  Waivers must be signed and fees paid for each race.  For online registration information check the Fayette County Board of Education website at and drill down to the individual school website.
