02 Feb 2008 PTCRC HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE RENE FLAHERTY
Think back to high school or college and the dreaded term paper. Remember what it was like to have this deadline hanging over your head? You probably had a lot of research to do, drafts to write and proofread, and revisions to make. Now imagine having this deadline hanging over your head every other month all year long, year after year. And not only does this paper have to be informative, accurate, concise, and timely, but it also has to be entertaining, humorous, contain lots of pictures, have something of interest to everyone, and be in full color.
Hall of Fame honoree Rene Flaherty has been the editor of our award-winning club newsletter, The Legacy, for the past four and a half years. During that time Rene has spent countless hours on the layout, writing, compiling, editing, printing, publishing, and distribution of this product which also serves as a historical document of the activities of the club. Under her leadership, our Legacy newsletter won the regional and national RRCA Newsletter of the Year award in 2005 and the Southern Region Merit Award in 2007.
A PTCRC member since 1999, Rene was part of the club’s Hood to Coast relay team for two years and the Reach the Beach team this past year. She has also been a member of the club’s Ekiden relay team and captained the team in 2007. She was named Most Improved Runner in 2004 and was awarded the RRCA Volunteer of the Year award in 2007. She has also assisted in obtaining door prizes for the Kids Fun Run for the past four years.
A native of Connecticut, Rene spent her married life following husband Dan around the world with the U.S. Army. They settled in Tyrone in 1995 with their three children: Tom, Bryan, and Maureen. She has worked as an editor at FC&A Publishing for the past 12 years. Congratulations Rene!
